Initiatives for SDGs

Top Message

Against the backdrop of the social revolution pioneering the advent of an "autonomous and decentralized society," in which individuals live autonomously with authority and responsibility without the interdependence of companies and organizations, Metaps renewed its corporate vision to follow the message of "Unleash the World” in August 2020.

This message expresses the desire to break through traditionally stereotypical and restrictive management and work styles, and redefine the way companies should operate in the "age of the individual" by taking a unique approach as a technology company toward the realization of an autonomous and decentralized society.

This concept is also directly reflected in Metaps’ Basic Sustainability Policy. Commencing with the "Metaps SDGs Declaration" released in 2020, Metaps has moved forward with full-scale initiatives such as the publication of the "SDGs Report" and the holding of regular in-house study sessions.

Carrying over the policies of Metaps, we will continue to contribute through our business activities as well as develop internal systems and frameworks to support them, with the aim of realizing a society where everyone on the planet can lead a free, active life and pursue happiness as they work towards their goals.

Metaps SDGs Declaration

We consider the SDGs to be important goals that will drive the world forward. Through our businesses, we will contribute to the realization of a society in which everyone around the world can continue to create genuine value through the freeing of individuals and the enabling of companies to both pursue economic value and solve social problems at the same time.

Employee Relationship

Our personnel system is based on the premise of fair recruitment and promotion without regard to nationality, race or gender. We have adopted a flexible work schedule that allows employees to work shorter hours and telework during life stages such as childbirth, childcare, and nursing care. With the exception of some positions, we also allow for business casual wear throughout the year. We believe that through support and offerings such as these are linked to ensuring a healthy lifestyle for our employees, promoting their well-being while reducing inequalities, and leading to a sense of job satisfaction and a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature.

Future Action Plan

We will further refine our personnel system with the aim of constructing one where all people can enjoy a rewarding work experience, not only through the system of new graduate recruitment but also through year-round potential recruitment activities. We will continue to promote flexibility through the hiring of not only full-time employees but also part-time, outsourced, and side-job employees; in addition to the ability to transition from full-time to outsourced or outsourced to full-time, and the reinstatement of retired employees. In addition to promoting women and foreign nationals to executive and managerial positions, our aim is for 100% of all employees taking maternity and childcare leave to return to work. With respect to our office setting we aim to transition to a more open plan environment where anyone can work from anywhere, fostering real communication across open spaces over simply staying at a singular office desk, and we will consider opening satellite offices. Additionally, in consideration for the environment and as a countermeasure against the novel coronavirus, we have already announced that we will switch to an electronic signature service for the sealing and signing of contracts with our suppliers; and as part of our digital remoteness, telework, and BCP, we are going entirely paperless.

Objective 16)
Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all and building effective, responsible and inclusive institutions at all levels.

Compliance

We believe that improving management efficiency and enhancing management soundness, transparency, and compliance will increase corporate value over the long term and lead to a return of profits to our shareholders and many other stakeholders. In order to enhance this management soundness, transparency, and compliance, we have established an organizational structure capable of staying up to date with all changes in the managerial environment in a timely manner, regarding quick and flexible reponsiveness with upmost importance, while continuing to work on the improvement of corporate governance.

Risk Management

We have also established an internal reporting system in which our legal counsel, full-time Audit and Risk Management Committee members, and the General Manager of the Internal Audit Department serve as the contact point for reporting risks. In addition, we have established a system in which we can seek advice from outside experts such as corporate attorneys, auditing firms, tax accountants, and social insurance and labor consultants, as well as from any other relevant authorities, as necessary, if an important, high-level risk that requires advanced judgment is discovered. In order to strengthen the risk management system within the Metaps Group we have formulated Risk Management Regulations, and risk assessment and response within the Group is promoted by the Risk Management Committee consisting of people in charge of legal affairs and internal control and with the Administrative Division acting as the secretariat.

Elimination of Anti-Social Forces

We recognize that any relationship with anti-social forces could lead to a violation of laws and regulations, and reject any transactions with such forces in an effort to prevent damage from such entities. In order to eliminate anti-social forces, we have established a ""Manual for the Exclusion of Anti-Social Forces"" in addition to prohibiting any form of contact with these forces. New business partners, shareholders, executives, and employees are, as a rule, investigated through a private investigation agency to determine whether or not they have any relationship with anti-social forces. At the start of a transaction, all contracts are required to include a guarantee that there is no relationship with anti-social forces, and a clause to exclude organized crime groups in the event of an association with such forces. In addition, we pay attention to our existing business partners and other connections, as we believe is normally necessary, as well as carry out investigations and confirmations to a certain extent. We have a system in place to promptly terminate a business relationship with an existing business partner if it is discovered or suspected to be an anti-social force. We regularly participate in external workshops and seminars, and have established a system of cooperation with the police, attorneys, and other external specialist organizations to collect information on a daily basis and to deal with emergencies. In addition, we regularly conduct compliance training for our officers and all employees in order to maintain our system of eliminating anti-social forces.
